Start With the Need, Not the Software.

A technology project often begins with an idea: a new application, a better website or a system to manage business information.

Before choosing the software, it helps to understand the work the technology needs to support.

Begin with the everyday work. What is taking too long? Where is information difficult to find? Which tasks are repeated? Who will use the system?

These questions help turn a broad idea into a clearer requirement. They also give the people designing the solution a better understanding of the organisation.

Review what is already in place. An organisation may already have useful systems, records and tools.

Reviewing them helps identify what can be retained, improved or connected. The objective is to find an appropriate approach—not to replace technology simply because something new is available.
